Monthly Archive for January, 2009

Vintage Inspired themes were strongly featured among the top designer collections for Spring 2009.

Everything from 50s inspired Plaids, 70s Paisley & Ethnic Prints, 60s Shift Dresses and 80s Asymmetric shapes, ruching & detailing were key.

Ruffles, sheer fabrics, sequins & embellishments were also major components amongst the top collections.

Designers like artists have always thrown an eye to the past to influence

their work. Personally I would rather own a true Picasso than a modern abstract any day ;)

Well the great news for us vintage fashionistas is that we can recreate these runway looks with ease by investing in high quality vintage pieces which cost a fraction of the designer ‘take’ whilst having the added benefit of being a complete one off!

Heres a snippet of the key trends for Spring 2009 as seen at New York Fashion Week alongside each hot new trend we have the real deal- that is iconic pieces that have inspired these collections- click on for more detail.

Donna Karan

80’s luxe was the look at Donna Karan at New York Fashion Week-Draping, Ruching  and Asymmetric tailoring with embellished neck lines were key  features amongst her collection for Spring

Suede for Project Runway

Ultra-girly was the watchword for Suede, with Barbie-perfect gowns in deftly mixed florals & plaids

Pictured right we have a 70s floral maxi dress which we think surpasses the designer item hands down

Anne Hathaway’s Formal Dress worn at the 2009 Screen Actor Guild Awards (SAG’s) was one of the most exquisite on the night. The actress wore a white Azzaro gown with crystal embellished neckline and belt. We’re loving this Grecian Goddess look-so classy

If you’re looking to emanate this look on a budget check out our version in black - this ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ 70s Grecian dress by ‘Jack Hartley’ Miami is stunning- complete with a sequined embellished neckline and a 20 inch front split!

Colourful and accessible they are the perfect compliment to jeans, skirts and shorts and of course a great tran-seasonal piece that every girl should own.

Courtney Love and Jason Preston (Marc Jacobs’ boyfriend) reportedly spent thousands of dollars on vintage T-Shirts recently from a street vendor in New York City.

The mini skirt was the fashion  phenomenon of the sixties. Hemlines rose to 7 to 8 inches above the knee.

There is some debate over who invented the mini. Mary Quant’s boutique, Bazaar, on the King’s Road, Chelsea was one of the first places that sold them in 1965. French fashion designer, André Courrèges, also added mini skirts to his fashion collection in 1965.

We love the style of the sixties and the wow factor that’s still evoked by wearing a mini or bold striking abstract prints.

Check out how fantastic J Lo looks in this 60s inspired creation…we reckon she’d look just as hot in our Mocha Mini Dress which btw is only gonna be listed for another 9 days…this is one dress that has to be worn for true appreciation -as the pics just don’t do it justice
