Monthly Archive for April, 2009

Ok when you first hear the word ‘Paisley’ you may be inclined to picture old men’s ties and grannies aprons – and hey few would blame you, but take a look at these sexy ladies above and think again girls…

Paisley is a great alternative to bold prints if you prefer something more subtle and sophisticated –it’s still fun but with a classic appeal. And this vintage style can be found on everything including swimsuits, tunic tops and sexy Summer dresses – yes you’ll see paisley taking a big step back into the limelight this year!

When woven together in bright colors such as purple, pink, red, orange and  blues, the pattern takes us right back to the 60s and 70’s. So pair your paisley with denims and docksiders, or go boho and slip on Birkenstocks and bangles with your paisley pick. And speaking of picks check out our very own below – gorgeous when paired with skinny jeans and heels, hail the paisley…

For anyone who missed this fabulous vintage fair in February -or indeed for those who were there and know how amazing it is -well we’re delighted to tell you it will be back on Sunday 10th May in the Holiday Inn, Ormeau Road, Belfast.

Perk up! Vintage & Revamp will be there with bells on, selling amazing ladies clothing from the 50s to the 80s with some special surprises thrown in!

But don’t just take our word for it, read on for a review given by Sugahfix.com from the February fair:

By Katrina Doran

”The Frock Around The Clock Vintage Fair at the Wellington Park Hotel on the 15th February was a veritable feast for the eyes as well as amazing shopping experience.

Our magpie tendencies were overwhelmed with the dazzling array of sparkly things drawing out attention from table to table.

Beads, broaches, cuffs and bangles all vied for our attention and we mused and swooned at the covetable antique rings and fob watches.

The fashion was utterly fabulous with almost too much choice for any vintage lover. A classic Dior jacket caught our eye and feathered hair bands and veiled head pieces were tried on and had us giggling like schoolgirls who’ve just spotted their rock n roll dreamboat. Vintage treasures were found and bought from first edition comics to miniature sewing machines to crockery and funky telephones.

Modern design twists with reclaimed chairs decorated chairs with old issues of the Beano to crafty corsages and headbands and simply beautiful paper dresses created from vintage paper patterns added a funky design edge to the items on show.

We came, we saw, we bought more than we intended - it was fabulous! ”

Ireland’s annual ethical fashion week, ‘FASHION EVOLUTION’ is taking place in Dublin from 26th April – 2nd May.

In celebration of this Perk Up! Vintage & Revamp are giving a 20% discount in The Loft, Powerscourt Townhouse all weekend –just mention ‘Fashion Evolution’ when making a purchase to avail of the offer!

‘FASHION EVOLUTION’ is an awareness campaign that will focus on ethical and environmental issues within the Irish and international fashion industry. In this time of economic hardship, Fashion Evolution looks to lighten the load by offering entertaining and engaging alternatives to consumers of fashion, through a series of events, from a national clothes swap to a public exhibition of Irish design and interactive seminars, including:

·                     CRAFTERNOON TEA -This full day of fashion workshops, combined with music and art will allow the public to be part of the fashion process and take home work of their own, showing that it’s easy and fun to be sustainable.

·                     Café Conference –a cafe style seminar with a heavyweight line-up of Irish and international speakers for those with an interest in the fashion industry.

·                     The Irish Premiere of China Blue – Shot clandestinely at a blue jeans factory in Southern China, where a 17-year old Jasmine and her friends work around the clock for pennies, China Blue reveals what international retail companies don’t want us to see: how the clothes we buy are actually made.

·                     An Evening with Patricia Roberts – Come to sit, knit and listen to Britain’s most iconic knitwear designer speak about her designs and reviving knitting in the 21st century.

·                     National Swap Day Saturday 2nd May – As clothes swapping sweeps the land, Fashion Evolution is encouraging everyone around the country to breakout of our consumerist throw -away culture, to spring clean those wardrobes and throw their own clothes swap party.

Rosie O’Reilly, one of the event co-ordinators for ‘FASHION EVOLUTION’ and passionate ethical fashion expert said: “The current economic climate has forced a re-think of spending habits and a return to frugality and creativity in fashion. This year’s event will put a huge focus on educating and empowering the public through workshops and talks. We want to encourage consumers to get active and have fun.”
