‘Dynasty’ – ah yes that cutting edge real life drama that shaped our childhoods and challenged us on oh so many levels…well okay it was a campy, ott bit of entertainment – but it had glam in abundance!

One of those larger than life soap operas, it purported to portray the lives of the wealthy rich while embracing the greed, glamour and excesses of the Reagan-era 1980s, set in Denver Colorado.

It centered around the wealthy but troubled Carrington family, headed by the powerful oil tycoon Blake Carrington but the ladies undoubtedly ruled the screen from the beautiful and sweet Krystle (Linda Evans) to bad girl Fallon (Pamela Sue Martin), and of course Blake’s scheming ex-wife, Alexis (Joan Collins).

The outfits spoke volumes about the fashion du jour – big brash and loud evening gowns (thank you Joan ) and power suits with shoulder pads so big they came with their own postcodes. And lets not even start on the hair and make-up department! Needless to say they had their work cut out…

To celebrate that Dynasty-esque style, we’ve got some fabulous, albeit toned down, glam straight from the 80s:

It seems everywhere we turn these days we are reminded of our childhood, our teenage years – even of our parents youth in some cases!  and all in the form of cotton tees.

Brandishing every character from Papa Smurf to Papa Roach and The Flintstones to the Rolling Stones (the question remains – which Stones came first?) no icon is safe from the tee-makers whether they be of rock n’ roll fame, retro toons or beloved tv stars of the 80s.

While this form of nostalgia is very cute and started out with the best of fashion intentions – we cant help but wonder where it ends? What or who is next – The stars of Glenroe? Teasy’s face on a tee? Wouldn’t surprise me.

One thing’s for sure, these vintage-inspired tops are bound to be big hits for festival season.

So if you’re a little worried about wearing the same He-man vest as your fellow –fest goers or like us are concerned about how ethically sourced most of these threads are then why not go for a complete original?

Our revamped vintage t-shirts are hand crafted from two or more original vintage t-shirts to create a complete one-off every time!

You can’t help but smile when faced with a bright, bold psychedelic print so who can blame Kylie for looking so radiant! These prints sum up the best of the era that gave us psychedelia…bold, bright, fresh, fun and revolutionary!

While her locks channel 70s icon Blondie, Kyle’s funky outfit is a nod to 60s retro style – in this figure hugging psychedelic print dress.

And yet again she takes a ‘step back in time’ alongside Nelly Furtado - the pop princesses battle it out in the same psychedelic inspired halter-dress. We reckon they should opt for one of our fab psychedelic frocks and never again run the risk of featuring in ‘who wore it best’ columns, just click on gals…

Bring on the skirts!… Hands up those girls who have a flouncy floral/patterned skirt or two hanging around the wardrobe as potential mothfood and gathering dust? Maybe an old Laura Ashley number you bought for a family occasion – your mammy loved it and you just couldn’t disappoint her!

Well good on you for hiding it away for a rainy recession…now dust it off and give that skirt a new lease of life – here are just a few ideas:

1) Short short and short again! – the good ladies in our 50s photo above had the right idea! minis are still bang on trend so get that old Singer out and put to good use by chopping to mid thigh for those Summer days and nights. Simply throw a pair of leggings into your bag for emergency ‘weather changes’. Short florals also make a gorgeous alternative to sarongs should you be lucky enough to need one!

2) Team Work! There is nothing as cute as a floral skirt, except when teamed with floral tops and flowery accessories – yep we’re talking cutesy overkill! So avoid this crime by adding some masculine touches and harder edges to create a very fashion-forward contrast. Pair with a fitted blazer and simple white vest, or a starch-white shirt and glad sandals – get the look right and you can swan straight from the office to the party.

3) Rough it up! Get sexy with your skirt by adding a vintage rock tee, leather biker jacket and killer heels – dark and sultry make-up will complete this bold look with just the right amount of femininity.

4) Belt Up! Turn an elasticated calf or full length skirt into a cute bandeau dress by pulling it up and adding a stretch belt under the bust, just like we did below: Gorgeous and easy peasy – two looks in one – how’s that for creativity?

And fret not if your old floral 80s skirts are long gone and a mere pastel coloured memory – we’ve got your back! Check out some of our fave vintage and revamped skirts and all their potential:
