Ben Harper and David Arquette are now in the rag trade, selling self designed tees, denims and vintage inspired clothing for men and women. Ok you may be thinking what the hell have these pair got goin on- one a geeky comic actor married to Coutney Cox, the other super hot soulful musician married to Lara Dern – longtime pals who share a passion for fashion apparently! It might smack of ‘just another celeb backed clothing line’ but the guys actually come across as genuine fashionistas who share vision and taste and I’m sure get plenty of advice from the gals indoors! Their newly opened store ‘Propr’ in LA is getting lots of attention and for the right reasons. Easy to wear, vintage inspired affordable clothing with sharp attention to detail and fabrics and a customer friendly laid back atmosphere.
And these boys are very much hands-on too with Harper styling and tilling up when he’s there and Arquette spinning music on decks whenever he’s on the shop floor.
They’ve been good pals for over 10 years and before they even met, knew of each other’s passion for vintage. “I would get to a vintage shop and ask if they had a certain item,” said Harper. “And they would be like, ‘Oh, we did, but David Arquette was just here and bought it.
“For fall, we looked to ’60s Liverpool, beatniks and the poets of the period,” says Arquette of their latest collection. “We listen to our wives and friends who wear our clothes, and we’ve changed some pockets placements and seams based on their feedback.” In general, the guys get much of their influence from 60s and 70s styles and the Californian skate and surf culture.
Well we’ll be following this label enthusiastically, any excuse to google the delicious Ben Harper eh…
