Monthly Archive for August, 2009

We ran a blog some time ago about this fabulous concept -The Uniform Project -and said we would donate some of our revamped range to help this worthy cause. Well we did and yesterday on Day 111 of the project the beautiful Sheena accessorised the now infamous lbd with one of our revamped waistcoats, adding her own unique creative flair with the ensemble!

I urge, no I insist any of you who may be in L.A – yes THE L.A –between now and September 6th to get your booties to the ‘Outstanding Art of Television Costume Design’ exhibition. Featuring over 100 costumes from our fave T.V. shows like Gossip Girl, The Tudors, Mad Men and the lifetime movie Coco Chanel! The exhibit also features the winning collection by FIDM Grad and Project Runway: Season 5 winner Leanne Marshall.

The coveted cossies are taking position in the FIDM Museum & Galleries for the fourth year exhibit. Check out just a few pics of what’s on display, especially if like moi this is the closest you’re gonna get to the outstanding threads.‘The Ghost Whisperer’‘Grey Gardens’‘The L Word’

The exhibit includes costumes from several shows and movies nominated for the Emmy Awards, which airs Sept. 20, with nominees who are considered to have a big impact on upcoming trends like “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency,” with its wild and tribal graphic prints; and “Grey Gardens,” which shows off fabulous 50s cocktail dresses and a red floor-length velvet gown.

Jo Katsaras is the costume designer for “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency.” The show is set in Botswana, and Katsaras stayed there for six months to experience the culture.Jo’s main piece of advice for young designers is to stick by your intuition, saying “If I don’t see the images in my head when I first read the script, I don’t do the project. Costume design is bringing characters to life.”  Well that certainly is paying off for her now, bring on the Emmys…

Rumer Willis – daughter of former power couple Demi and Bruce - celebrated her 21st Birthday at TAO Nightclub in Las Vegas last Saturday in a gorgeous vintage sequined lbd, Fendi shoes and vintage jewels. Joined by her extensive family and mates she certainly looked her Hollywood royalty best – I remember when 21st parties were an outing for taffeta and crushed velvet accessorized by a helluva lot of Elnette for that must-have coiffe! Retro baby…I kinda prefer Rumer’s vintage efforts, just a little…

Dita never lets us down eh! Here she is in a fabulous 50s day dress leaving an LA nail salon a few weeks ago. No tsb’s and a messy up-do for this busy bee while out and about – this gal is the epitamy of glam day and night –shame on us mere ‘unmade up’ mortals.

Model and actress Milla Jovovich rocks this feminine vintage outfit which totally suits her lean catwalk silhouette. Milla who is getting married in a few days has gone all recessionista on us and is making her own wedding dress –a short and simple 70s style frock apparently! We cant wait to see the homemade number – although she could wear a white tesco bag collage and still look utterly amazing.

Yep, again I have been one very lucky lady and this time round my luck (and Annmarie’s highly appreciated invite!) took me to the uber-stylish and lush Harvey Nichols First Floor Restaurant of Dundrum for a sumptuous feast and cocktail or three. My second luncheon with the most stylish bloggers on our isle but also a very special first anniversary for the brunching beauties!

We were so well looked after by our host Michael while the edible treats included a mixed summer berry and granola starter, platter of house amouse bouches, toad in the hole, cheesecake – barely enough room left for another bellini at that stage –the treats continued in the form of a coveted goodie bag. Oooh…I’m now the new owner of NARS gloss and matte foundations, Benefit Throbb blusher, Collagen marshmallows (yep really!) Liz Earle travel products and more, much more… Cheers Annmarie and Harvey Nichs, you guys rock!
