Whether its a 60s style floaty floral – as seen on Sienna, long floral maxi – favoured so highly by Nicole or an edgy 80s take on the look modelled above by Jennifer Connolly – Retro florals and the return of ‘Granny-chic’ are set to be hot trends this Summer, so grab a floral anywhere from the catwalk to the high street to well…your Granny’s wardrobe if your lucky!

It’s interesting to compare fashion trends from the previous recessions with those emerging in 2009. Take these floral dresses which became huge during hard times in the 60’s and 80’s – with longer fuller skirts, more reserved necklines, wider shoulders and billowing or capped sleeves. Ring a bell? Could Katy be the new pin up girl for Vintage?

Sure looks that way – even if her wardrobe runs ‘hot and cold’ …

This is a girl who is not afraid to take some risks and must have one of the most fun fashion collections to be seen at the moment in celebville.

Her good friend and stylist, Johnny Wujek, who’s worked with her for album and magazine covers, red carpets, and music videos recently chatted to Cosmogirl about Katy’s most memorable outfits-from looking like a pin-up girl to an ice cream cone-and how to channel her style.

Says Johnny:‘’When I first met her she was just very colourful and vintage. You know, wearing a crazy old prom dress that she would just find and cut up and make amazing.

What are some style lessons we can learn from Katy? Shop vintage?

”Vintage shopping for sure – Don’t be afraid to make a statement”

I think it’s cool that Katy’s so free-spirited and just kind of loves fashion as an art form.

She’s always saying it takes confidence to dress how she dresses and be comfortable wearing carousels, or an ice cream cone dress. Rock it and rock it hard.”

Here’s a pair of vintage beaut’s we think would suit Katy’s quirky but girly sense of style – on and off the stage…
